Danville Master Gardener Volunteer Opportunities

Master Gardener volunteers manage an information table at the Danville Community Market on Saturday mornings from May through October, providing horticultural information to the public.

With the Community Market used as a drop-off point, DMGA coordinates the collection, processing, and bagging of seeds for the Ruby B. Archie Library Seed Program, DMGA Seed Program, and Public Works Community Pollinator Gardens Program.

Volunteers enhance the academic experience of Gibson Elementary School students through classes, exploration, and hands-on experience with plants in the greenhouse, outdoor beds, and pollinator gardens. Volunteers work throughout the year to plan, teach, propagate, plant, harvest, and maintain the plants in the greenhouse and gardens.

Volunteers plan and coordinate program content, secure speakers, recruit sponsors, and manage logistics of the annual Spring to Green educational horticulture seminar.

Master Gardener volunteers adopted and now maintain a Community Pollinator Garden at the Ruby B. Archie Library. This is a Bee City USA Danville initiative.

Volunteers create and publish an online quarterly Danville Master Gardener newsletter, Gardeners' Corner, in March, June, September, and December.

DMGA educates and assists the public by providing plant clinics and workshops at local gardening centers, Danville Community Market, local private gardens, local clubs and organizations, and other locations open to the public.

Volunteers plan, organize, conduct, and assist as mentors in the annual Danville Master Gardeners Training Program.

Volunteers plan educational tours for DMGA members. Master Gardeners are encouraged to open their gardens to fellow members.

Volunteers conduct monthly presentations on the last Thursday of each month, May through October. Open to the public, they cover a seasonally-appropriate gardening or landscape topic. Held at Ballou Park Shelter #10, these presentations are co-sponsored by Danville Parks and Recreation through its DVA Outdoors program.

DMGA volunteers collaborate with the Ruby B. Archie Library on second Saturdays from February through October to cover seasonal gardening topics. Sessions are free and open to the public.

Volunteers maintain the DMGA Facebook page and website as well as develop and supply horticultural educational materials for literature racks at select locations in Danville.
